Anti-Wrinkles and Anti-Rugosity

Bio3D Structured-light Scanner is a 3D digitalization system based on structured-light fringe projection (phase shift method), which works at 290 images per second, reducing the effects of movement and getting a higher resolution that current systems in the market. The 3D information obtained is analyzed with specialized software developed internally to perform the different assays shown below.

For the wrinkles and rugosity analysis, we determine the capacity of the treatment in reducing frontal and lateral wrinkles (crow’s feet) through quantification (pixels) of total area, length, depth and smooth area.

Whitening and Anti-dark spots

Bio Blue Light Scanner is an own development with a high-resolution camera (5 Mpixels) and a diffuse and indirect lighting system, emitting at 470 nm. This wavelength has low penetration in the skin, hence the perfect visualization of the skin dark spots. Additionally, it has been developed a specific software which allows the image analysis and the quantification of the parameters associated with the dark spots.

We assess after topical application on human volunteers the capacity of a treatment in reducing the size of dark spots, the number of dark spots, its pigmentation, and to increase the color uniformity. Pictures in different formats for each of the volunteers are included, as well as self-assessment questionnaire according to client’s needs.

On the other hand, we also use Mexameter to assess melanin and erythema levels, in a specific part of the face. Its use is cheaper than the previous technology, but it does not provide with marketing pictures.

Face Volume and Contour

Through the use of Bio3D Structured-light Scanner and a specific software internally developed, we can take several pictures from a volunteer and create 3D reconstructions, in order to compare before and after the application of a topical treatment.

The developed software allow us to obtain data from area reduction and depth (thus, volume) in the whole face oval, from the deviation obtained in each of the analyzed points (all the points of the face).

Anti-Sagging

Through the use of Bio3D Structured-light Scanner and a specific software internally developed, we can take several pictures from a volunteer’s neck zone and create 3D reconstructions, in order to compare before and after the application of a topical treatment, obtaining data for neck sagging reduction (depth in millimeters) from the mean deviation obtained in each of the points of the vertical axis that crosses reconstruction.

The developed software allow us to determine the efficacy of anti-sagging treatment, even though differences are very small (millimeters).

Anti-Acne

Anti-Eye Bags

Through the use of Bio3D Structured-light Scanner and a specific software internally developed, we can take several pictures from a volunteer’s eye contour and create 3D reconstructions, in order to compare before and after the application of a topical treatment, obtaining data for area reduction (mm2) and eye bag depth (mm), thus obtaining the reduction of the eye bag volume (mm3).

The developed software allow us to determine the efficacy of the anti-ete bags treatments, even though differences are very small.

Anti Dark Spots under Eye

Through Bio Blue Light Scanner, we assess the capacity of a treatment in reducing the dark spots under the eye, characterized by excessive blood flow and hyperpigmentation, in the same way we perform for the whitening and anti-dark spots analysis.

For the analysis, we determine the total area of the dark spot (mm2) and the contrast between the dark spot and the normal skin.

Exfoliating Capacity

We analyzed the exfoliating capacity of a specific topical treatment, through quantification of corneocytes adhered by tape-stripping in the forearm and evaluation by image analysis through the use of a UV transilluminator.

Skin Temperature (Thermography)

Assessment on human volunteers of the capacity of a specific treatment in changing the skin temperature, through quantification by Thermography (Camera FLIR A655sc). Perfect for slimming creams activating metabolism, sports cream, massage cream, anti-inflammatory creams, cold or hot effect, etc.

Proliferation and Hair growth

We assess the capacity of a determined treatment or active ingredient to stimulate hair growth, through quantification of total number of follicles, total area and length, in a specific area (ROI); through Bio Blue Light Scanner.

Additionally, we extract hair follicles from human volunteers before and after treatment (in vivo) and compare gene expression through RT-qPCR, to assess the molecular efficacy and functionality of the treatment.

Moisturizing / Firming / Brightening / Anti-Sebum

We assess the effects of a treatment on skin moisturization (Corneometer® CM 825), firmness and elasticity (Cutometer® dual MPA 580), brightening and lumiosity (Skin-Glossymeter GL 200), and cutaneous sebum (Sebumeter® SM 815).

Tailor-made designs according to client’s specific needs. It is included a self-assessment questionnaire.

Barrier Function (TEWL) and Regeneration

Through the use of Tewameter probe, we analyze the skin barrier function through quantification of Transepidermal Water Loss (TEWL). Custom designs according to client’s needs.

On the other hand, we assess the stimulating effects on cell turn-over by comparing the kinetics of decrease in skin color obtained by application of DHA (Dihydroxyacetone) to a skin site treated with the product and to a control site (untreated), through melanin levels quantifications by Mexameter.

Consumer Perception studies (Use Tests)

Most in vivo assays include a consumer perception study. We analyse the subjective effects of a treatment on human volunteers, through self-assessment questionnaire, according to the client’s needs.

Gene or Protein Analysis through Tape-Stripping / Skin scrapping (in process)

 

We analyze on human volunteers whether a treatment induces or inhibits the expression of specific genes, obtaining cells from stratum corneum using tape-stripping or skin scrapping before and after the treatment.

This assay is also used to determine penetration capacity in the skin.
